People often ask us how they can train to teach the 5Rhythms. Here we would like to give you a bit more information about the process.
For each new teacher training course there are certain requirements that all of the applicants have to meet.
The following are the minimum number of hours needed to apply.
In most cases preference will be given to those who have spent the longest time practicing.
- WAVES: at least 400 hours studying with qualified teachers of the 5Rhythms
- HEARTBEAT: a minimum of 15 days of study
- CYCLES: a minimum of 15 days of Cycles study
- MIRRORS: A minimum of 15 days of Mirrors study, and preferably more.
- A minimum of 2 years studying this practice.
A different set of minimum requirements may apply for the next training.
You may well have spent the right number of hours dancing but this does not automatically mean that you will be offered a place on the training. Whether or not you are accepted largely depends on who you are – your motivation, your attitude, your ongoing commitment to the practice, the way you deal with setbacks, your expectations.
If you apply to train as a 5Rhythms teacher, Gabrielle and her staff will decide whether to offer you a place on the training and will often confer with the local teachers before making a decision.
If you are ‘captivated’ by the dance and you experience the desire to become a teacher, you can start preparing for the training. It is a good idea to let Gabrielle and her staff know that you are interested in becoming a teacher. You will need to gain a great deal of experience on the dance floor. But you can do this at your own pace and while respecting your own abilities and limitations. You will also need to make sure that you meet the minimum requirements listed above. This preparation process is an important phase – the actual training is the final step.
Once you have completed the training you will begin to discover and develop your own personal style and your own way of teaching the 5Rhythms. Qualifying as a teacher is not the end of your studies. It is the start of a deepening process in which you make an ongoing commitment to being a student of the 5Rhythms.
Gabrielle Roth allows the teachers she has trained to use the 5Rhythms trademark.
“When you have fallen in love with the Rhythms
When you crave the ecstatic space
between art and healing
When you yourself are becoming a teaching
And teaching has become a calling
I invite you to join me”
NB. People who have not trained with Gabrielle Roth sometimes use her name and/or the 5Rhythms trademark when they are not legally entitled to do so. The trademark is supposed to protect and maintain the integrity of Gabrielle Roth’s work. Teachers all over the world who are authorised to use the 5Rhythms trademark all trained with Gabrielle Roth and are all involved in an ongoing learning process with Gabrielle and her Core Staff.
Gabrielle Roth runs teacher training courses at various intervals.
At the moment we do not know when the next training will take place.
If you have any questions about training as a teacher you are welcome to contact one of the directors of the 5Rhythms organisation in the Netherlands (Sietske Venema, Saryo van Lakerveld or Gabriëla van Dillen).
